Announcing an exciting change to the 2024 Teaching Innovation Awards

Since their conception in 2020, LearnSci’s Teaching Innovation Awards have received some truly remarkable applications from educators around the world. Each year, we have welcomed applications across several areas of interest, with one of these areas being ‘Progress - Impressive development of a previous Teaching Innovation Awards applicant project’.

For 2024, we’re excited to announce that we’re making this area of interest the sole focus of the Awards. We want to learn more about the long term impact of application projects and how they may have been strengthened to meet the ongoing changing demands of the HE sector.

What does this mean?

In a change from previous years, there is no requirement for educators to apply for this year’s Awards.

From October 2024 to January 2025, we will be reviewing all previous winning entries, as well as applicants who were Finalists or Honourable Mentions. These educators will then be involved in more detailed discussions with us, sharing more about how their project has progressed since their application. From these discussions, we’ll draw up a shortlist of educators who have demonstrated the most impressive development of their application project.

The 2024 Teaching Innovation Awards will culminate in an event, due to take place around April 2025. Shortlisted finalists will showcase their projects, evidence and experiences to their fellow educators and the LearnSci team. As the event draws to a close, those who have shown the most impressive development of their project will be announced as winners for 2024, as decided by their academic peers. In previous years, winners have also had the opportunity to present their work at the prestigious Horizons in STEM Higher Education Conference (TBC for 2024 winners).

See our Teaching Innovation Awards webpage for more information about the Awards.

Celebrating continuing success

The 2024 Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the ongoing successes of our previous finalists and winners, and to share examples of best practice with the community. We’ll particularly be looking forward to showcasing projects that have focused on skills, assessment, student engagement and badging/micro credentials.

Looking ahead to 2025

In 2025, new projects will once again be eligible to apply for the Teaching Innovation Awards. The change we’re making for this year will provide educators with more time to work on their projects, and to gather more evidence of the innovation to back up their applications. Applications for the 2025 Awards will once again open in November 2025.
